Harvesting Alpha is a monthly memo for wholesale investors, fund managers, business owners and leaders, and financial professionals who are committed to understanding where and how real value is created.
Each edition explores a focused theme—whether drawn from theory, history, or current events—while staying grounded in the question: Where is the value, and how can it be harvested?
About the Author
Anthony Guy
I’ve spent most of my career trying to answer one question: where does real value come from? Why does that company create it but that one doesn’t? How do you unpick that black box that is a business, company or group of companies and discern what is working and what is broken?
With formal qualifications in accounting, finance, law and strategy I am been fortunate to have been well mentored have had opportunities to apply those tools across the real-world spectrum of business valuation, strategy and private equity to corporate turnarounds and, more recently, private credit with an agricultural lens.
I lead the Ecosse Group, but much of my work happens behind the scenes—advising managing directors, owners and boards in moments of financial or strategic pressure.
Harvesting Alpha is my way of holding a mirror to conventional financial wisdom—exploring big ideas in finance, economics and business strategy, and sharing what I’ve learned (and am still learning) along the way.
Harvesting Alpha reflects my lifelong commitment to applying cross-disciplinary insights to the world of private markets, where inefficiencies still reward the prepared mind.
